An OCIP With 20 Years of Safety and Success

In 1992, the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) developed and implemented an OCIP to provide insurance for its contract partners. Since implementation, the OCIP has reduced insurance costs and improved safety. Through fiscal year 2011, OCIP claim costs have been reduced from 66 cents to 12 cents per person-hour, and the OCIP recordable injury rate dropped from 4.53 to 0.621. The program also improved claim results and facilitated better communication and understanding of safety requirements among contractors.
