Structural-Steel Prices Slip 0.4％ in September

Prices for structural-steel shapes slipped 0.4％ in September, wiping out August's modest 0.1 ％ gain, according to ENR's 20-city average price for channel, wide-flange and I-beams. This month's decline is measured against a 0.2％ monthly price average increase for the three products in September 2012. As a result, the year-to-year change in the average structural-steel price fell to 1.4％ this month from 2.1％ last month. Mill prices for structural-steel shapes decreased 5.3％ in May and are down 11 ％ from a year ago, according to the Washington, D.C.-based forecasting firm IHS Global Insight.
