Amplified by Interdependence

According to the July 2013 report U.S. Energy Sector Vulnerabilities to Climate Change and Extreme Weather from the Dept. of Energy, climate change has and will continue to directly affect the nation's ability to access, produce, deliver and store energy resources. During his presentation at Columbia University's Center on Global Energy Policy in New York City in August, U.S. Secretary of Energy Dr. Ernest J. Moritz noted that the effects of climate change on energy infrastructure are amplified by the interdependencies of power plants, refineries, transmission and distribution networks, and associated transportation and storage systems-a situation that was not fully appreciated until Hurricane Sandy.
