The U.S. Dept. of Commerce has again revised upward its growth figures for the construction industry, according to its latest seasonally adjusted annual data for new construction put-in-place. Commerce bumped up its estimate for construction last May to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $889 billion from $875 billion. It estimates the market slipped back to an annual rate of $884 billion in June, down 0.6% from May's revised figures but still 3.3% above June 2012's pace. On a year-to-date basis, total construction through the first half of the year was estimated at $408.52 billion, which was 4.4% above the previous month and 5.1 % above the first six months of 2012 (see table).
