Delivering Custom Quality on a Tight Budget for a Signature Project

The West Hollywood Library is the signature project in the city's capital program, but the budget was limited. The key challenge was achieving high-quality finishes for the design's custom and unique features, despite the low-bid delivery. These features included a custom wood-coffered ceiling, a uniquely elaborate Children's Theater replicating the 16th-century Laurentian Library by Michelangelo, curved exterior walls of French limestone plaster, a curvaceous exterior ceremonial staircase with built-in seating and a handrail with integral lighting, and new park space atop a new underground garage.
