New Mississippi River Bridge Construction in Full Swing

After two years of vertical construction, horizontal work on the new Mississippi River Bridge has been progressing at a rapid pace. A joint venture, led by Massman, Traylor and Alberici, the bridge will be the first bridge in more than 40 years to directly connect downtown St. Louis and southwestern Illinois. Abnormally high-and low-water conditions, in addition to a tight schedule and the linear nature of construction, left no room for error. Both piers were completed in mid-July 2012; the team began setting the first steel while the horizontal work was still being completed.
