Asphalt Paving Prices Continue To Cool

The average prices for liquid paving asphalt ended last year with a 10% annual rate of increase. By the beginning of March 2013, this annual escalation rate had slipped to 8%. The preliminary data for March shows a monthly increase of 0.1 %, bouncing back from a monthly decline of 0.3% last month. The forecasting firm Global Insight, Washington, D.C., predicts the Bureau of Labor Statistics' producer price index for asphalt paying mixtures will decline an average 1.5% this year, following a 6.8% average increase in 2012.
