Accelerating New Daniel Boone Bridge Construction Over the Missouri River

In St. Louis, Mo., construction is under way on the new Daniel Boone Bridge that will carry four lanes of eastbound traffic over the Missouri River and will have a 64-ft clear roadway and a barrier-protected 10-ft-wide bike-pedestrian path connecting the Katy Trail and the Monarch Levee Trail. The $m-million design-build project includes the design and construction of the new 2,615-ft bridge, repairs to an existing eastbound structure and demolition of an existing westbound structure. An important goal of the Missouri Dept. of Transportation was to minimize construction impacts to traffic along the I-64 corridor. The new bridge is being constructed without reducing the number of lanes throughout the process. In three months, Burns & McDonnell completed a state-of-the-art design for the bridge that is on an accelerated schedule for completion by July 1, 2015.
