Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge Opens to Traffic

The Missouri Dept. of Transportation celebrated the opening of the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge, the first to connect downtown St. Louis and southwestern Illinois in more than 40 years. On February 8, officials participated in a ceremonial ribbon cutting, sponsored a 2,500-participant 6-km run over the bridge and welcomed 10,000 pedestrians. On February 9, the bridge opened to traffic. Construction of the entire bridge-a total of 2,772 ft, which included a 1,500-ft cable-stayed main span with 400-ft towers-was completed on time and within budget by Massman, Traylor, Alberici, A Joint Venture.
