Transporting a 380-Ft-Long Superload Transport through Tulsa

Burkhalter Rigging Inc., a specialty heavy haul and heavy lift provider, recently completed the transport of a naptha splitter tower through Tulsa. With a transport length surpassing that of a football field, the tower traveled approximately 20 miles from a local fabricator north to a Tulsa refinery. While the tower itself is almost 215 ft long, the total transport configuration was 381 ft long, 18 ft wide, nearly 22 ft tall and more than 860,000 lbs. Burkhalter utilized specialized dual-lane transporters to haul the load over the road to the refinery, where it will then trans-load it to self-propelled modular transporters via a 500-ton hydraulic gantry system in order to maneuver it through the active refinery to the final location. Later this month, Burkhalter will use a 2,000-ton capacity Liebherr LR 11350 crane to set the tower in place.
