Built in 1898, the dam at Lake Scranton in Lackawanna County, Pa., forms a lake that holds approximately 2.5 billion gallons of water. This water provides safe drinking water to more than 160,000 people in the 14 communities served by the Pennsylvania American Water Co.'s Scranton-area water-treatment plant.
