The Oklahoma City I-235 Railroad Bridge project is the first of its kind in Oklahoma. At 40 ft tall and 550 ft long,the sheer size of the bridge presented special challenges, but they were no match for the skills and expertise of theironworkers who completed both bridge spans without a lost-time incident, ahead of schedule and on budget.The $273-million railroad bridge will replace the existing BNSF bridge south of the I-235 interchange with I-44. The ironworkers completed the 275-ft-long bridge spans off location, alongside interstate 235 near NW 50 Street to minimize traffic disruption. The spans were transported on 100-wheel massive semi-trucks in January and placed using a hydraulic system and four gantry cranes. The bridge spans were scheduled to be placed a week earlier but were delayed due to predicted high wind gusts.
