In this regulator the movement is supported by keyhole slots in the mounting plate, as is often found in many Austrian made Vienna regulators of the late 1800s. With this in mind, it is important that strict clock-making principles are adhered to in order to ensure that everything lines up and fits together perfectly. This requires accurate measuring and the adoption of the correct procedures. The mounting plate and movement plates are made from 3mm CZ120 brass sheet. By far the most economical way to buy this is as a 4 foot by 2 foot sheet from a metal stockist, but unless a fair amount of clock-making is proposed this is probably not an option. There are, however, stockists who will shear out the plates to size but in this case an extra millimetre should be added to the dimensions as the edges are inclined to be slightly rounded off in the shearing process. It is wise to check that the plates are "square" at this stage by measuring the diagonals, but the chances are that the suppliers will have cut the plates quite accurately. All that is required now is to file up the edges to bring the plates to dimension and to make clean corners.
