Two major Manitoba Hydro infrastructure projects - The Riel Reliability Improvement Initiative and the Wuskwatim hydroelectric development - are proceeding to various stages.rnThe Riel Sectionalization as it is also called is intended to provide an alternative connection of the existing high-voltage Dorsey-Forbes international transmission line connecting to southern Manitoba and eventually Minnesota in the United States.rnAlthough Dorsey station and the Dorsey-Forbes line are described by Manitoba Hydro as very important in exporting power to the U.S., they are also heavily relied upon to maintain import capability.rnAccording to Manitoba Hydro, sectionalization of the Dorsey-Forbes line and existing 230-kilovolt lines, which run along the Red River Floodway at the Riel site, will establish an alternative terminal station, which should provide for contingency of a broader range of upstream outages.
