Orally disintegrating tablets (ODT) of desmopressin have been available in developed countries for many years; however, they will only soon be available for use in Japan [1]. Arima et al. reported on the safety and efficacy of desmopressin ODT as an antidiuretic in Japanese patients with central diabetes insipidus (CDI) [1]. Previously, patients with CDI in Japan were treated with intranasal desmopressin. Despite the newly available treatment option, caution should be exerted when switching from intranasal desmopressin to desmopressin ODT in these patients (according to a personal communication from Dr. Arima). When switching from intranasal to ODT desmopressin, ODT is usually administered at a dose of 60 ug thrice daily [1].
