Insect thermoregulation

Except in special circumstances, such as hibernation, mammals commonly keep their body temperatures within quite narrow limits. With insects, however, the situation is different. Rapid and considerable temperature changes occur in response to changing needs: for example, the transition from a resting state to extremely rapid wing movement in flight. This article reviews the regulatory mechanisms involved and how they come into effect.
