The Latest: Cellnex has acquired marketing and operational rights for 220 high towers in the UK from BT. The deal, worth aroundGBP100mn (EUR113mn), will see Cellnex operating the sites on behalf of BT for the next 20 years.Implications: Cellnex continues to expand its presence in Western Europe, cementing its dominant position in the regionaltelecoms towers market. In early 2019, the Spain-based company announced its intention to expand in the British and Dutchmarkets, increasing its capital by EUR1.2bn, and has recently acquired more sites in France, Italy and Switzerland. This latest deal istherefore in line with Cellnex’s strategic goal, as the company has now increased its total number of operating sites in the UK byalmost 40%, from 608 to 828.
