Deutsche Telekom may invest in Wi-Fi operator Fon as part of a nbroader strategy to divert rising volumes of data traffic off its core nmobile networks and thus reduce bottlenecks and congestion in ntraffic throughput. Using Fon's business model, Deutsche Telekom nwould make use of spare capacity on consumers' wireless broadband nrouters across Germany and in other European markets. Meanwhile, nBMI believes partnering with Deutsche Telekom would allow Fon nto expand into the Central and Eastern European region, hence its nlikely interest in working with Deutsche Telekom as an investor nrather than as a partner.
