Clocking, Texas-style: A 300 MHz spread-spectrum clock generator from TI

The CDCE706 and CDCE906 from Texas Instruments are interesting new clock generators which include three independent PLL modules. They also feature a spread-spectrum output to help minimise EMC problems. But what are these devices like in practice? It is often the case that a fixed-frequency clock generator is needed, but crystals of a suitable frequency are not available. The problem can be solved using a PLL device which can be used with a standard crystal to generate almost any desired frequency.
