This series of three articles deals with the design of analogue filters. The first part covers the basic theory with an emphasis on practical applications. The second deals with the design of active filters, while the third and final part will cover passive filters.Analogue filters are built using resistors, inductors, capacitors, and opamps, and are used to process analogue voltages and currents. Digital filters, in comparison, are based on digital circuits such as flip-flops, counters, multipliers (usually in the form of a DSP or FPGA) or software in microcontrollers and SoCs, and operate on streams of data.
