Each of us has experienced at some point what electrostatic discharge means: You touch a metallic object and it sends a tingle through your finger or even your whole body.From a physics point of view,an electrostatic discharge is a potential equalization of two differently charged bodies.This potential difference is caused, for example,by friction,which electrostatically charges the body-its potential is increased.If lower potential,the potentials are suddenly balanced out, causing a tingle,shock or vevn a spark.These are by no means small voltages:At a relative humidity of 10%, a person can be charged to over 35,000V by walking on a carpet alone.
