These were just some of the metrics and methodologies by which manufacturing enterprises were measured against their peers in the 1990s. In addition to these competitive pressures there remained the traditional customers' desires of lower prices and enhanced reliability. Add in a new push for mass customisation and manufacturers found themselves in the most challenging period of the 20th century.
