DPA-Switch~(TM) device family breaks the DC-DC converter price barrier: an opportunity for India's power supply manufacturers?

DC-DC converter modules or 'bricks' are readily found on telecom line-cards and elsewhere in the multitude of systems being built to help India meet its telecom-market target of 60 million lines by 2005. High performance, low profiles and small-footprints are requirements that have kept these bricks from being produced locally. The new DPA-Switch device family, from Power Integrations, will enable local manufacturers to make the bricks themselves, at lower than import costs, using its highly integrated technology. This article describes a 5 V/6 A (30 W) output, telecom input-range (36-75 VDC) design that is quickly and easily adaptable for large-scale manufacturing.
