Large-system power design architecture has evolved to distributed power, in that off-line ac is converted to a low voltage bus, typically 48 Vdc, which is then distributed throughout the system to the board level where it is finally converted to low voltage by board-level dc/dc converters. Often, these systems require n + 1 redundancy to en-sure system availability even if a power supply should fail.
