Selecting and applying a resistive touch-input panel—the lowest cost of current touch technologies—to a human machine interface (HMI) LCD can be a tricky proposition, even when all the variables are known. Further, with the recent expansion of flat panels into many new markets and applications, the necessary information may not always be available to help the designer make an informed decision. Compounding the problem is that perhaps the designer is new to or inexperienced with touch panels, or a cross-functional team may be working in areas unfamiliar to them.
