Ultra wideband (UWB), an RF technology characterized by a modulated spectrum at least 20% of the carrier frequency or 500 MHz wide, has long been touted as the answer for short range, personal area wireless communications. Previously significant only in military applications, the availability of low- cost, highly integrated media access controllers (MACs), baseband processors (BBPs), and high-performance RF front ends has increased interest in the technology.
