Ambient energy harvesting is gaining acceptance as a complimentary power source for portable low-power commercial and military applications. The need to reduce the dependence on batteries for example, has created a niche market for emerging energy-harvesting technologies. Historically, the ability to harvest and convert trace amounts of ambient energy has been impractical due to inefficient power conversion and harvesting technology material cost.
