At the beginning of the 21st century, LeCroy (the company that would later be purchased by Tele-dyne to become Teledyne LeCroy) was looking to move from thecrowded, mid-range scope market into the high end. That was when Peter J. Pupalaikis, vice president, technology development, and Roger Delbue, vice president, engineering, started to think about how a really high-bandwidth oscilloscope could be designed. Using the then-common design scope technigues wasn't going to give LeCroy an advantage in the market. According to Pupalaikis, "As soon as we were ready to launch our super high-end product, Tektronix would launch a higher bandwidth one just before us."
