A typical airbag inflator is a two-terminal device in a metal housing and is used to initiate the deployment of the bag in an automobile crash. Modern passenger restraint systems incorporate a dual inflator, which allows for variable inflation rates, depending on the speed of the vehicle crash. The pyrotechnic device that actually triggers the gas discharge, which inflates the airbag, is called an initiator. The resistance of the initiator is a valid indication of a good device.
