Chip Vendors Must Address Network OpEx

Representatives of dozens of the world's giant telecommunications companies as well as their very largest customers―like, say, the government of India and the General Motors Corp.―are convening in Atlanta this week for Supercomm. Coming along to see them are the hundreds of smaller communications IC vendors, networking OEMs and network services providers who make up the rest of teleco ecosystem. IC vendors are painfully aware that, in essence, the floor dropped out of capital expenditures for communications networks well over a year ago. And they are not deluding themselves that it will come roaring back this month. But one prominent analyst says focusing on the Capex problem is in itself problematic.
