Mobile Commerce Growing As Card Pacts Aim at Share

Card associations are inking partnerships to promote the use of their payment products in the growing mobile commerce (m-commerce) arena. In one pact, MasterCard International and Motorola Inc. will collaborate to sponsor projects that assure interoperability between MasterCard's electronic payment systems and Motorola's wireless Internet devices and platforms. The two companies plan to develop new m-commerce technologies that support the initiatives of the newly formed Global Mobile Commerce Interoperability Group (GMCIG), of which both companies are key members. The GMCIG offers partners a global and open organization to develop and promote secure wireless payment standards.
