DRAM makers look to ally, as Infineon courts Hynix

Taipei, Taiwan - Memory chip companies are intensifying efforts to join forces or reach some kind of truce to stem their losses. But so far few agreements have resulted from the parleys going on among top executives of these beleaguered device makers. Hynix Semiconductor Inc.'s merger talks with U.S. DRAM maker Micron Technology Inc. have gone nowhere due to resistance from Hynix's creditors over the proposed acquisition price and infighting within the South Korean company. Meanwhile, some DRAM makers have begun sitting down together to discuss ways to manage the world's memory chip capacity.
