HP taps Bluetooth for cell phone-based printing

Geneva ― Hoping to capture the millions of snapshots taken with camera phones for one of its printers, Hewlett-Packard Co. launched a printing platform last week that uses Bluetooth technology to connect wirelessly to mobile phones. The announcement was one of a range of products and technologies unveiled by Carly Fiorina, HP's chairman and CEO, in a keynote at the ITU Telecom World 2003 conference here. Fiorina said that HP is committed to "driving innovations in all aspects of mobility" and "accelerating the task of taking the next wave of mobility mainstream." Cell phone giant Nokia will be the first handset vendor to leverage HP's platform, enabling users of its Series 60 imaging phones―including the Nokia 3650, 6600 and 7650 models―to print photos, MMS messages with images, e-mails and other items to HP printers without connecting to a PC.
