Now finished with a 30-day member review, version 22 of the Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) specification is ready for prime time. The latest version of the PCI standard includes the new functionality of PCI Hot-Plug and PCI Power Management, in addition to a roll-up of engineering change notices (ECNs) and errata since version 2.1 was completed in 1995 (see the table). While the latest update is essentially a "clarification release" of the spec, a number of recent additions may have interesting implications for multimedia and interrupt handling.
