Traditional DSPs and ASSPs don't have the processing power required to accept the large bandwidth of data from 1080p and 720p WDR CMOS sensors. For example, a full HD raster is 2200 by 1125 pixels by more than 16 bits per pixel by 60 frames per second, resulting in a bandwidth that's greater than 2 Gbits/s. Altera's FPGAs can deliver the bandwidth. Altera's HD surveillance IP camera reference design includes Apical's software and Eyelytic's H.264 video encoder.
