With the move to deregulation in the utility industry and the advent of digital technology in the utility enterprise, the road to substation automation is changing course quickly. The political and economic forces at work are causing utilities and vendors alike to move away from a proprietary approach in terms of business, operational and technology issues, and assume a co-operative front in bringing the industry forward.
