October's Sizzling Single-Family Starts Represent Best Growth Since 2007

Privately-owned housing starts in October were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,530,000. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, this +4.9% above the revised September estimate of 1,459,000 and +14.2% above the October 2019 rate of 1,340,000. Single-family housing starts in October were at a rate of 1,179,000, +6.4% above the revised September figure of 1,108,000. While single-family housing starts logged their best pace since 2007, according to the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Robert Dietz, NAHB's chief economist said October building permits were flat, possibly signaling that housing starts would level off in the months ahead.
