摘要

The paper covers the subject of cables for aircraft from the aircraft constructor's aspect. Factors which govern the choice of cables are dealt with under the general headings of environment, weight and cost. Special cables are then briefly discussed. Aircraft circuit and installation requirements are extensively considered, including reference to short-time characteristics of cables and the effect on circuit protection, co-ordination and weight saving. Considerations of aircraft-manufacturing and airline-operators' requirements are briefly reviewed. An appraisal of cable specifications and civil and military approval is made with some possible recommendations that may assist in the future. Terminations are briefly dealt with in the paper, and passing reference only is made to pin-and-socket connectors because of the complexity of this subject. Discussing future developments, the author has endeavoured to clarify some of the requirements for aircraft cables: admittedly, some of these may be controversial. Lines of development which have a profitable weight and/or cost potential are also discussed.
