Forward thinking addresses ATSC multipath problem

The potentially serious multipath problems associated with the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) digital and high-definition TV (HDTV) standard have recently entered the limelight and caused concern that the ATSC standard is not robust for broadcast. Early implementations and testing of 8-VSB (vestigial-sideband) transmissions showed problems in dynamic multipath and long-delay, static-multi-path reception. In analog systems, multipath delay appears as ghost images as a signal reaches a receiver at different times with different strengths, based on signal reflection.
