Communication is the process of transmitting ideas from a sender to a receiver while preserving the syntax and semantics of the message. When speaking in public, you always run the risk of someone misunderstanding you, or even worse, having others misquote you. In the latter case, a new audience receives a message very different from the one you originally transmitted. As electrical engineers, we have learned this lesson in electronics communication, so we include checks and redundancies to ensure, as much as possible, that the receiver hears the same message we send, not an approximation. Unfortunately, we have not found a way to introduce the same safeguards into the printed media.
