Why I loved the elections

I WAS DELIGHTED by the November elections, but I'm not speaking of the outcomes themselves. Instead, it was due to the visible breakdown of pseudoscientific aspects of modern elections: polls. Before Election Day, relentless news reports inundated us with polls. In the gubernatorial contest here in Massachusetts, for example, polls the day before the election showed the race to be even or with one candidate ahead or behind by five points. The breathless, so-called news reports took this poll divergence itself to be the story, proclaiming "conflict in latest poll results."
