The electronics industry had a very good year in 2004, with consumer and other high-volume designs driving demand to new highs. At the same time, forecasters and vendors see some areas of concern and are predicting a relatively flat 2005, at best. EDN's 15th Annual Innovation Awards demonstrate that these uncertainties failed to squelch the cornerstone of our industry. Although the term "innovation" has become a cliche in many ways, to us at EDN, it is a far more meaningful concept. The record number of votes we received via our online ballot proves that the urge, desire, and demand to innovate still form the foundation of our industry. This year, we continued our Best Contributed Article category, and we added a new category to honor our milestone 15-year anniversary: a "Best of 15 Years" category that gave our audience a chance to pick the most significant and innovative product from a select group of six past innovation-category winners.
