Implantable sensor device promises continuous cancer monitoring

Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology claim that they can implant a sensor device during a cancer-tissue biopsy and that the sensor can remain in patients for continuous monitoring of the disease's impact on their health. The device repeatedly samples the local environment for tumor-biomarker, chemotherapeutic-agent, and tumor-metabolite concentrations, which could improve early detection of metastasis and personalized therapy.
