A recent Ernst & Young report indicated that venture capital (vc) investments in clean energy-ethanol, wind, and solar-were down 63 percent through March 2009 compared with 2008 levels, though investments in energy storage and fuel cells were up. With vc activity hampered by struggling stock markets earlier this year, all types of initial public offerings (IPOs) were down to their lowest point since 1979, according to a report from research firm Clean Edge. There were only 43 ipos overall in 2008 compared with 272 in 2007, and there were only a small handful of energy-related ipos in 2008.
