I come to the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) chairmanship at an exciting time, a time of terrific change, in terms of technology, the environment, and the economy. And, electric utilities are helping to drive that change. eei's member companies advocate smart climate change legislation that protects customers and the environment. We are supportive of an 80-percent reduction in greenhouse gases by 2050.. .but we also recognize that the transformation to a low-carbon economy will not be without increases in electricity costs.
