According to Edison Electric Institute's "Power Poll," based on survey results from last December-a relatively innocent time before the unrest in Egypt, Libya, and the petroleum-exporting Middle East-73 percent of respondents say it is important to expand the use of electric vehicles (evs), and for various reasons: fewer greenhouse gas emissions (80 percent); general energy independence (79 percent); better national security with reduced dependence on foreign oil (78 percent); and new manufacturing jobs (75 percent).
