Because nitrogen oxides (NO_x) contribute significantly to the ozone problem, some parts of the United States have pushed NO_x emissions requirements for gas turbines to below 5ppm. These stringent regulations are forcing power plants to retrofit their gas turbine systems with NO_x emissions abatement equipment.
