WIRE EDM SURFACE CHARACTERISTlCS PART TWO OF A THREE PART SERIES SURFACE CHARACTERISTICS GENERATED BY VARIOUS TYPES OF COATED EDM WIRES

In our Summer, 2018 Feature article, we examined three significant characteristics of Wire EDM surfaces produced with brass EDM wire. This treatise will extend that examination to a variety of coated EDM wires, all of which are coated with some form of high zinc brass alloy, in order to determine if Wire EDM surfaces produced by coated EDM wires differ significantly from those produced by plain brass EDM wire. In order to remove the machine technology as a variable from the results, these further examinations were performed on the same legacy lab Wire EDM as the prior examination of brass EDM wire. For reference, the results of the previous brass wire examinations will be presented alongside of the data from the examination of the current batch of coated EDM Wires.
