Austria Vienna says no to Haider

His far-right Freedom Party saw its share of the vote dip by over a quarter to 20% in Vienna's state election on March 25th. Now, as the party squabbles, Jorg Haider's own future may be at stake. This was the first big test of his party's support since it joined Wolfgang Schuessel and his centre-right People's Party in national government 13 months ago. It is still number two in the state, where a fifth of the population lives, but it has suffered a bad blow, and for Mr Haider it may prove fatal to his hopes of one day becoming chancellor.
