That is a lesson Barbara Lundberg, the embattled American boss of Elektrim, Poland's flagship conglomerate, is unlikely to forget. She helped transform the once-sprawling communist-era trading company into a much leaner telecoms and energy group. But she and her fellow managers have now become caught up in a fierce tug of war between Elek-trim's two covetous foreign partners, Vivendi Universal and Deutsche Telekom, over its prized telecoms business.
